Tips for How to Tie Fishing Knots If you have ever fished you have had the big one get away from a broken hook, old fishing line, a snagged tree limb and worse yet, a poorly tied fishing knot. We all want to know how to tie fishing knots so this does not happen. Here are some tips for how to tie fishing knots. 3 Basic Tips for Tying Fishing Knots The perfect knot can be tied with a few simple yet very important tips. 1. Use the correct fishing line. What I mean is, don't just go out and buy the cheapest line that you can find. Make sure you have the correct weight of line. If you are using an ultra-light rod, do not go buy 12lb line. Stick with a lower weighted line between 2lbs.- 4lbs. The lures you are going to use with this rod are much smaller and a larger line diameter is not going to let that line tighten up correctly around the leader, eyelet, or swivel. 2. Use the correct sized lure for the rod you are using. The correct sized lure for the rod you are using is a must. If you are bass fishing, with a 7' heavy action rod, you are not going to want a 1/8oz lipless crank bait. 3. Change your fishing line every year. Change your line every year. This will keep you from getting memory built up in the line, making it not come off the reel smoothly, or worse getting a birds nest of fishing line. So spend the money, do not think that the line you only used 3 times last year is still going to be the same as the day it was purchased. These 3 basic tips will not only make for a better fishing trip in the long run, but are the stepping stones for getting those fishing knots tightened correctly. So you have the basics now. It is time for you to learn more specific knots you will use through out your fishing career.
